I sold a sculpture!

"Heffalump" Altered Wheel-Thrown Ceramics, 2013
I am proud to announce that I sold a piece today.

It is my first sculptural work to be sold and I am proud of the little guy. While I am surprised this is the first sculpture piece to go, I am happy he has a good home.
He is altered from wheel-thrown pieces. I threw four shot glasses for feet, a weed pot for his body and a weird cone shape for his tail. He was fired with cone 6 glazes.

He stands on one foot and I envisioned him with balloons tied to his tail. His original title was "When Pigs Fly...I Would Rather See an Elephant Soar" and was renamed "Heffalump" The original title was a play on one of my fellow students work. She does word play pieces such as "When Pigs Fly."

I originally got the idea of making a figure from wheel thrown pieces from seeing an artist create her work using this method. Gerit Grimm is a ceramic artist who throws figures on the wheel. Yes you heard me correctly, thrown figures. Her work is amazing. Anyways, so she inspired me to experiment with pieces of my own. My "Heffalump" is my first success and I am still debating if I should continue with this way of working. If anything I have a better appreciation of Gerit's work. It is a lot harder than it looks!
