First Gallery Opening

This past weekend, I traveled down to Houston, Texas for a special event. On Saturday, the 18 Hands Gallery held it's 7th Annual CAMEO Emerging Artist Gallery Opening.

I had two pieces on display in my first official show outside of school. Myself along with around 30 other students and their professors were chosen to be featured in this show. I took a risk submitting two of my figures to be in the show. One of the pieces gave the gallery trouble and is not displayed how I would have liked, but that was a risk I took. Hey, you live and you learn.

The show will be up from now until the middle of July so if you would like to see my work for yourself head on down to Houston.

The two pieces I chose to be in the show are "The Size of a Mustard Seed" (The girl in the brown aviator jacket) and "Guilty" (The girl in purple). These two pieces (shown below) will also be a part of my Senior Exhibition coming up in December, where they should be displayed the way I originally intended for them to be seen. But more on that later.

While I would happily tell you why I created these pieces I would like to leave the interpretation up to you to decide. We all have stories and memories from our own childhood that have been lost within our subconscious and I hope that through my art you will be inspired to remember your own adventures as a child. That creativity that we use to live our day to day lives by disappears as we get older to the point where we forget what it was like to just live your life and enjoy every moment we had. Each day would take on a life of its own and we lived for those moments of creative genius.

Well my trip to Houston was amazing. I was able to spend sometime with my family who were able to come to the event as well as just enjoy this once in a life time moment. My rats of course wanted to join me but the gallery would probably have frowned upon that, so they had to stay home (note to self: find or create a gallery the rats can come to).

By the time the show rolled around on Saturday, I was pampered and dolled up, ready to celebrate my achievement. Afterwards, I hit up downtown Houston with my fiance AJ. Of course, being the photographer that he is, AJ took a lot of pictures while I was trying to master my new heels (I swear heels are a devise used to torture women and I have the blisters to prove it). You can chcek out some of the pictures he took on AJ's blog.

My family came to support me at the show.

NCECA 2013

I probably should have posted about this months ago but I finally got around to uploading my pictures to the internet (which was a headache....computers and I hate each other).

NCECA or the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts hosts a conference every year at a different location around the United States. I had the privilege of not only going but volunteering at the 2013 NCECA Conference in Houston, Texas. This was my first conference and hopefully will not be my last. It was a wonderful week in March with so much art to see that I missed half of it. I went with two of my classmates, Nick and Jesse. We left on Wednesday the 20th and returned on Saturday. We heard speakers and watched live demonstrations and saw a lot of art. It was definitely worth the trip!
